Term 2 Week 2
We realised that apart from the 3D printed parts, we would also need other things like particular types of string, velcro, screws etc. to assemble our hands, and that we could order kits from the US.
Two of us (Juliet and Nick) decided to fundraise in the holidays by baking things like cupcakes, brownies and chocolate cake. We also received lots of donations from the friendly community. We managed to raise $70.50 in just one session!
May 4th
We are now setting up our 3D printer and computer. We are also working on the website.
May 11th
We are finishing setting up the 3D printer and computer.
Saskia and Lily also decided to make baked goods such as cookies and jellies on the weekends and managed to raise a great $56.20 also put towards the project! We now have enough to order 3 kits - enough for one hand per group. Yay!
May 18th
We are about to print the prosthetic hands and do the last finishing touches to the 3D printer. We will hopefully print the hands next week!!! (fingers crossed)
May 25th
Today we have nearly finished the 3D Printer. All we have to do is level the Building Plate. Let's hope it Works!
Oops! - Our first hiccup - we can't find the filament guides! Mrs. Rao will have to get in touch with the supplier to see if we can get replacements.
June 8th
We are hopefully going to start printing the hands soon. We've got the replacement filament guides.
It's taking us longer to set up this printer than we thought!
June 15th
Finally we've levelled the build plate and are all set for our first test print. Soo exciting!
June 16th Were printing the right palm of a hand hopefully it's going to work!
Holidays!
July 17th Yay it worked! We were accidentally printing in ABS plastic instead of PLA which melt and print at different temperatures. The correct temperature is very crucial to the print because we tried printing PLA mode with ABS plastic. During the week we will finish printing our first (model) hand.
